MRHS Theatre Classes
Courses offered each year/semester may include those listed below, based on number of students enrolled. It is suggested that students try to take at least one of these courses each year. Courses must be taken in order. Students/parents should speak to a guidance counselor for options.
Classes offered are open to all interested and passionate students, grades 9-12. Classes meet everyday, and students may receive honors credit for upper level courses. Some performance work exists in all classes (except Technical Theatre). If students work hard in class (and in life) they will succeed.

Theatre Arts I
An introduction to all areas of theatre; especially beneficial to students who appreciate theatre, but are still trying to find what really interests them. Curriculum includes explorations in acting, directing, playwriting, technical theatre and dramaturgy.
Theatre Arts II
(Prereq: TA I) Thoroughly explores the history of theatre from around the world from the dawn of time through the 16th century. Curriculum includes mask making, stage combat, improvisation and the study of other cultures.
Honors Theatre Arts III
(Prereq: TA II) Honors level class that explores advanced theatre topics like the history of Broadway and musical theatre, puppetry and performing for young audiences.
Honors Theatre Arts IV
(Prereq: TA III) Honors level class that explores advanced, specialized aspects of theatre such as clowning, theatre management, and creative dramatics.
Technical Theatre I
A very hands-on class that thoroughly covers all areas of technical theatre (sets, lights, sound, props, costumes and makeup), and will be a vital part of mounting school productions.
Technical Theatre II
(Prereq: Tech Theatre I) An advanced stage crafts class that builds on curriculum from Technical Theatre I, focusing more on individual design projects, while also being a part of mounting school productions.
Independent Study in Theatre Arts
(Prereq: At least two theatre classes and interview) An offering to students who have exhausted all other options for theatre arts classes, and those with special circumstances in scheduling. The class is tailored to the student’s individual interests in theatre. Past offerings have included: Acting, Stage Management, Set Design and Makeup Design.
IB Theatre
(Prereq: TA I & II) For those students on the IB track wishing to be more well-rounded in their education. Currently offered at Standard Level.
