Mr. Sims
Winston Sims grew up in Rockingham County, North Carolina. He graduated from Dalton L. McMichael High School in 2003, where he was heavily involved in the band and theatre programs. Those involvements and opportunities inspired him to pursue Theatre Education as a major at UNC-Greensboro.
Mr. Sims elected to take five years to complete a BFA in Theatre Education degree, graduating in 2008. While at UNC-G, he was able to take classes in acting, directing, stage crafts, design, puppetry, stage combat, dance, music, theatre history, acting for the camera, voice and movement. He also completed a Masters in Education in Theatre Education from UNC-G in 2013.
While in college, Mr. Sims performed with The Theatre Guild of Rockingham County and The Winston-Salem Theatre Alliance, and also took classes in improvisation at The Idiot Box. Since moving to the Charlotte area, Mr. Sims has performed with Matthews Playhouse and Theatre Charlotte. He has been a part time acting instructor at Matthews Playhouse and the Charlotte Academy of Music.
Mr. Sims was awarded the Inspirational Theatre Educator Award by EdTA (the organization that oversees the International Thespian Society). He was nominated by his students because of his dedication and hard work in providing quality theatre education. Only three people in the country are selected to receive this award each year.
Mr. Sims met his lovely wife in their last semester of college, when they completed their student-teaching at Southern Guilford High School. She is the chorus teacher at Parkwood High School.
Mr. Sims is very passionate about what he does, and seeks every opportunity to learn and grow as a Thespian and educator.
